FedEx Terminal, 50 new jobs Cleaning up city-Trailer Park along Hwy. 22 and other areas where housing had been condemned Designated daily clean up crew Over $300,000. in renovations to Harmon and Lucille McWherter Civic Center Developed marketing program by partnering with TVA and WTIA Instrumental in getting all mayors of county in meeting-never been done Partnering in Weakley Co. Economic Development Board Bringing in a CEO for then WCEDB, and developing a Spec. building for industry Started active program for job loss in Dresden New authority given to Indus. Board to promote job recruitment Developed new position for Econ Development and research grant opportunities Over $200,000 spent on Dresden City Park renovations Carried out downtown renovation started in previous administration Made downtown Dresden ADA accessible All projects done without tax increase-paid for project as we went along Started sewer rehab. Program (20 years in the making) Developed Advisory Boards for all departments…brought more citizens into the programs in city gov’t (get enthusiasm of young adults with the wisdom and knowledge of the seniors) Develop marketing pro and part TVA WTIA to market available buildings in Dresden such as Avon and Quebcor-marketed world wide i.e. Japan and Korea Developed War On Drugs with full time officer, 54 cases over a year ago and over 150 cases a year Major renovation of sewer plant Started employee training for all employees Transformed city recorder and finance director to be more business and customer friendly Increased the number of business licenses by 21 over the last 12 months Public works dept into more + attitude and customer friendly Received grants to increase production and protection of Police and Fire depts. All audits showed up favorable…every penny accounted for Buy in Dresden 1st, Weakley Co. 2nd before we buy outside of the County Dev. Econ Dev program being patterned throughout the state Locate new businesses to Dresden-McCauley Chev., Heartland Rest., China King, On the Square, Lemonade Stand, The Flower Box, Pedals & Bows, Gleason Lumber has purchased land for expansion, LaCabana, new Drivers License HQ and other State and Fed buildings Here is a list of the funded or pending grant applications for the City of Dresden: Public Works Department: 2005- Sign Grant – Approved Funding- 10,000- Money has been but on hold b/c of cut back- but I have been told that they will fund this program in the next year. Fire Department Grants FEMA 2004- Funded for 82,665.00 FEMA-2006- We will submit application but Grant hasn’t been announced yet. Dresden P.D. 2004 & 2005-Vest Grant-Total Funding 4,302.00 2005- GHSO- Funded-10, 000 2006- Polaris Ranger- Grant Pending 2006- TLEC- Application Due 03-23-2006 City of Dresden 2006- CDBG- Grant Pending Weakley County Grant Application for Spec Building 2005- USDA-250, 500- Grant Pending Misc 2004- Iris Festival Grant- Funded -500     Design by definingdesigns.com.
